5 ways to feel more connected to your body

There are a million things that can take your away from connection to your body…

  • Physical or Sexual Abuse

  • Child Birth, Still Birth or Miscarriage

  • Chronic Illness or Pain

  • Injury

  • Eating Disorders

  • and so much more

How do you know if you have a disconnect from your body? Ask yourself some of these questions…

  • Do you have brain fog?

  • Do you often feel overwhelmed by your emotions, like if you let yourself really feel something it has the power to consume you completely?

  • Do you have a sense of emptiness inside?

  • Do you eat or drink mindlessly regardless of hunger?

  • Do you ignore pain, hunger pains, muscle pains, joint pains, etc. on a regular basis?

Here are 5 quick action steps you can take to start feeling more connected to your body today…

  • Balance: try standing on one foot, bring yourself to tree pose or if you are a practiced yogi find a pose that really challenges your balance. Breathe into your core, find a spot for your gaze to rest, and BALANCE

  • Dance: For this you need to find a song you really love, and probably want to be by yourself so there is a 0% feeling of being self conscience and a 100% chance you get lost in the song. If dancing is impossible for you right now try just moving your hands to the music or closing your eyes and imagining your body dancing.

  • Yin Yoga: Yin Yoga is a particular practice of yoga that is very slow moving, it requires you to be in poses for a long time. Chances are the more that sounds like torture to you, the more you really need it.

  • Walk Barefoot: Walking barefoot outside not only grounds you and connects you to nature, it also fills your body with minerals and vitamins it needs, it reduces inflammation and stress (see the last blog post), and allows you to shed the emotions that feel so overwhelming. Focus your attention on every sensation that your foot experiences as you walk.

  • Breath and Meditation: Get comfy somewhere and meditate on bringing your breath into each part of your body. Bring it from your toes all the way to the crown of your head. If you want a guided meditation on connecting to your body in this way, you can sign up for the body connection guide HERE.

When we live in a state of disconnection from our bodies we are unable to feel fully present in any moment, we cut ourselves off from feeling intense pain along with incredible joy. We can’t get healthy, we can’t make good choices for our bodies because we don’t understand them. I spent most of my life in a state of disconnection, I honestly don’t have it all figured out now, but what I am figuring out is that knowing my body is the only way I am going to find true healing from my past traumas and be able to experience the full breadth of redemption that God has in store for me! I hope that this guide on embodiment helps you feel empowered to get inside your own body, to discover yourself on a deeper level, and even find some healing within yourself.

In Love and Light,

Amber Newberry
