Amber Newberry is d38 parent passionate about keeping our kids safe.

when I started my work with survivors of sexual violence in 2018 I began to recognize a pattern among the teen girls I was seeing. They had all experienced sexual violence at the hands of classmates, and there was a deep lack of understanding about what had happened to them, and a lack of knowing what was appropriate and a violation, and if these girls didn’t know I was pretty sure the violators were also in the dark.

This is when I reached out to the school board of D38 and proposed a more comprehensive consent curriculum. The D38 school board and a group of dedicated parents, students, community members, and admin joined me in creating a Consent task force in 2023, and in 2024 we began to implement a new curriculum and in 2025 we look toward more change in policy and procedures as well.

it has been my absolute honor to teach about consent both in the classroom as well as for parents and teachers looking to keep their children and their children’s friends educated and safe. this is a passion project for me and one of my greatest joys. if you have any questions or are looking to bring a more comprehensive consent curriculum to your school, I would love to have you contact me.
